The New Year is all about having a fresh start and that includes clearing your palates and preparing your taste buds for what is yet to come. 2019 was filled with amazing food adventures for me not only in Houston but out of state and out of the country too. While the New Year embraces new things some restaurants are just too good to leave behind so I'm going to share with you my top 20 Houston eateries to bring into 2020 that are a must-try.
20 (Green Seed Vegan)
I discovered this hidden Houston gem in 2019 and fell in love. Green Seed Vegan is a small mom and pop shop vegan eatery off of Almeda road. You can find delicious vegan gourmet sandwiches like the Latini panini pictured above with a side of cauliflower nuggets and pineapple wheatgrass mint juice to wash it all down with.
19 ( Leeland House)
I love one of a kind eateries and Leeland House is just that. This rustic patio friendly establishment is great for dinner, lunch, and brunch. If you go for brunch get the Leeland benedict!
18 (Ruggles Black)
Try Paleo French-American Cusine at its finest at Ruggles Black. Trying to eat healthily and still enjoy quality food? Look no further because Ruggles Black is it! Make sure you try the roasted almond goat cheese salad.
17 ( Field & Tides)
Field & Tides is warm, charming and has delicious southern cuisine with elevated taste to back it up! If you go for brunch grab the avocado toast and brussel sprouts!
From the service to the food, this contemporary and chic eatery serves a wide range of cuisine options. For brunch, I highly suggest the eggs benedict with a mimosa to wash it down.
15 (MF Sushi)
MF Sushi is where high-end sushi meets elegance. Modern, contemporary, delicious and hands down some of the best service I've ever received. Any person that has ever dined here will say it is nothing short of a great culinary experience. Start with the baked mussels for your appetizer.
14 (Grinder's Coffee Bar)
I cannot get enough of this place! Grinder's Coffee Bar is all things, CBD, great coffee, cool vibes, delicious food and much more. Grab your laptop and your friends and head on over. Make sure you try one of their lattes, and you can add CBD to just about anything!
13 (Steak 48)
I don't care if it's 2020 or 2040, Steak 48 is coming with me into every year. I've been going here since it opened in 2016 and I don't plan on taking a step back any time soon. Get the bone-in filet, macaroni and cheese, brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes next time you go!
I think this picture speaks for itself. Hugo's is modern Mexican cuisine with an upscale twist. If you go in for brunch make sure you order the steak tenderloin benedict!
11 (Oporto Fooding House & Wine)
This had been on my dining list for a minute and I was finally able to try it in 2019, let's just say it didn't disappoint at all. This tapas wine bar and eatery is a great place for dates, friends and just having an amazing time with wine by your side. Try the grilled octopus please and you will thank me later.

10 (Rim Tanon)
Thai comfort street food in a quaint contemporary house is the best way to put this place. They have great service and an even better happy hour from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with great dishes like grilled meatballs and fish cakes, plus delicious lychee martinis!
9 (Poitin Bar & Kitchen)
One of my best discoveries last year was Poitin. They have creative bites with something new every time I go. The service, style, and food are fabulous. Try the steak benedict next time for brunch.
8 (Elliot's Table)
Find this family-style eatery right inside the loop. They take simple ingredients and elevate your tastebuds. The duck is delicious and nothing short of memorable.
7 (Politan Row)
Shout out to Rice Village for reinstating life with their latest food hall Politan Row. From vegan to Asian and coffee to cocktails you can find it all here. By the way, I'm holding a cocktail at the beginning of the article in front of Bar Politan the staple of the food hall. Grab a cocktail and enjoy it!
6 (Alice Blue)
Alice Blue brings the Heights another great eatery. When it opened in summer 2019 I knew I had to check it out and it did not let me down. This contemporary bistro has grace, great food and applauds worthy service. The classic roasted chicken is succulent and filled with flavor.

This New Orleans inspired eatery brings finesse, taste, and style all in one. Whether you're going for cocktails or food this is the place to be. If you go for brunch (my favorite meal of the day) try the Blue Crab Benedict.
4 (Kokoro @ Bravery Chef Hall)
Food halls for the win! Food halls have been taking over our city one bite at a time. Bravery Chef Hall downtown is an upscale twist compared to the mall food courts I grew up with. You can find live music, wine bars, and outdoor cocktail gardens. Not to mention the #4 feature Kokoro an authentic and fine dining sushi experience! Please try the wagyu beef tartare aka the A5 Maki.
3 (Ouzo Bay)
This upscale Mediterranean eatery had to make my top 3. They have an extensive seafood list, modern ambiance and sip worthy cocktails. The food and service are 10/10 for the win. Get the wagyu stuffed grape leaves and tiger shrimp to start with. For dinner feast on the Aegean Bronzino a mild but sweet white fish. I can't forget the sides, try the truffled crab mac & cheese and grilled broccolini.
2 ( Antica Osteria)
I've been dining here since 2013 and have yet to leave it behind. This is my favorite Italian restaurant! It's authentic, cozy, romantic, has great service and it's delicious. Words can't describe it you just have to indulge for yourself. My favorite dish is the chicken alfredo with angel hair pasta and peas.
1 ( Taste Bar & Kitchen)
I've cast my votes and did my analysis and it's time to reveal who is my #1 pick! Drum roll, please! My number one draft pick goes to Taste Bar & Kitchen! I'm a fat kid at heart who is from the dirty south so I had to pick this southern hot spot as the best new thing to happen to our city!
When they opened their doors at the end of March in 2019 and started taking reservations I signed up! So far I've been their three times and enjoyed the food to the fullest and can't wait for a redo in 2020. The Nashville Hot Chicken is my favorite! I love all things spicy so that is a no brainer. With a variety of waffles, I still love the classic buttermilk original OG waffle style. The mac and cheese is the best I've had besides my mom's mac. I can't forget the jerk seasoned lamb chops.
They are located right in midtown where things are always happening and have valet parking so you don't have to stress about that. Sometimes they even have special events and live music. This is also black-owned and one for the culture. So dig in and get your friend chicken on! Congrats to the winner!
